When you are creating your own text links
to Amazon or to clickbank or to your own
site or to an affiliate link what should
the anchor text look like?
Here’s my opinion: remember, this is just my opinion and not gospel
Scenario one: You are creating a text link to a product at Amazon.
My text links to Amazon will usually
include the keyword phrase I am targeting or
some variation of that keyword phrase.
This helps your lens rank higher because
the search engines see your keyword phrase in a link
and then they follow the link and sees your
keyword phrase or a related keyword phrase
at that link at amazon, a highly respected site.
For example, let’s say I was linking to a
light up glowworm toy at Amazon. Inside my
anchor text would be the words
See the light up glowworm toy here
and I would bold it and make it stand out
from the rest of the paragraphs. I want
people to know exactly what they are
clicking on when they click on it.
Scenario two: you are linking to your
own site for SEO purposes.
In this case the purpose of your anchor
text is not to entice people to click
on it – it is to let the search engines know what your
site is about.
The search engines give these links the most credit
when they are tightly focused on a keyword or
keyword combination or keyword variation and
when they are within a paragraph and not
standing alone.
so in this case you would be better off
creating a paragraph and sticking your link
right in the middle of it somewhere. Let’s say
you were trying to promote your wedding budget
e-book. Your link might look something like this:
When you are trying to plan a wedding it is
important to stay within your budget
because a +++wedding budget+++ will help
ensure that you have money for the honeymoon.
Making the words wedding budget a link to
your site would be the smartest move in this case.
(don’t Use the pluses – I was just using them to point
out the desired keyword within the sentence)
Scenario three: you are linking to a clickbank e-book or to an affiliate link.
In this case, you do not care if the
link gets any SEO juice or not. You want
your reader to know what it is and to
WANT to click on it.
What I would do is structure my lens to
promote the book or product and make it look good.
Then I would talk specifically about the book
or product and link to it many times in
many different ways.
I would have a text link that stood alone, a text link within a paragraph, maybe a big arrow link, some pictures that link to it … whatever I could think of.
My anchor text would be stuff like “click here to see the book” or “read more about his here”
Anyway, I hope this helps anyone who was confused about how to link out on their lenses!
What do you think? Do you agree with me?
