I bought a babyhawk Mei Tei baby carrier, used, off my local shop and swap for $60. This thing ROCKS. Here’s the one I have:
It is soooo great. My friend has one and she has loved it forever but when she let me try it on Broin he was only 2 or 3 months and couldn’t spread his legs wide so he had to go on there with them froggy style and it didn’t work that great so I just kept using my Moby.
Other Wraps and Carriers I have Tried and WHY I Persevered to find a Good Baby Carrier
The Moby was never my favorite because you can’t do a back carry and it would loosen over time and it made Broin spit up. Broin never loved it either so I kept looking for another wrap. I had a ring sling with Joe – the Maya wrap that was never perfect for us but it was all I tried back then.
I was going to just give up the search for a good wrap and just deal with having a filthy house and a sore back but then I read something on Facebook from the lady who runs wrapyourbaby.com . She said that when she got good at wearing her baby it made motherhood so much more enjoyable for her.
I wanted that. I wanted to enjoy mothering Broin all the time and not just sometimes. Or at least most of the time. So I decided I was going to keep looking for a super good wrap.
I tried a wrap that was similar to an ergo. it was okay but not super comfortable.
I bought a backpack carrier and although that worked well Broin is way too small for it and it is too big and bulky for housework.
And I tried a large piece of fabric that works like a woven wrap. It took forever to get Broin on my back in a good tight carry and it worked great and he fell asleep in it but it made my shoulders hurt really bad and I was unable to bring my arms all the way together in front of me to do dishes.
So when I got the Mei Tei I was immediately able to get him in it and get him on my front or back. He liked it right away and has already fallen asleep in it several times. it is very comfortable and doesn’t hurt my shoulders at all. After about 30 min. my back will start to hurt but I’m sure it will get stronger.
Broin actually seems to really like being in the Mei Tei. He is very calm and limp in it and leaves his hands relaxed at his sides and just looks around.
here is a very inexpensive Mei Tei at Amazon that I was eyeballing and thinking about getting before I found this good deal for the used babyhawk.
Do you have a favorite baby wrap or carrier? I would love to hear from you!
